I would enthusiastically recommend the Alliance to other students. The Alliance has given me incredible opportunities, but more importantly, it has given me confidence. I am learning from leaders who have paved the way for my future. If I have a problem or if I am in need of counsel, I have mentors to turn to. I know that whatever challenge I face, the Alliance has prepared me. I know that can collectively bring about change…so that museums may continue to be relevant to a broader section of our society for the next 100 years.

Being affiliated with the Alliance has had a significant impact on my chosen career path, and maturation as a young professional. I have been exposed to a multitude of disciplines within the museum field and have made an innumerable amount of professional contacts. The Alliance of HBCU Museums and Galleries programming completely changed my career path. I had initially wanted to become a lawyer, but I knew my heart was always in the arts. I was not an artist and I did not see a way to combine my love for art and history, outside of teaching. Yet this program introduced me to a world I never knew existed. It gave me first-hand experience in fields that have been largely closed off to people of color. I now want to become a museum director. I would have never imagined myself in that role had I know been in this programming.
