The American assemblage artist Betye Saar spent her childhood salvaging lost, discarded and forgotten things, like small glass beads, broken necklaces and scraps of colored paper left in trash bins or littering the ground where she walked.
The Alliance supports efforts to protect, preserve, conserve, catalogue, and digitize collections held by its HBCU member institutions. Through ongoing conservation efforts, our team of curators, conservators, and collections specialists work diligently to stabilize fragile HBCU materials and apply best practices in preventive care.
